Apple season is here! Use your orchard haul to make a batch of these scrumptious squares this fall. Use any variety of apple you’d like!
2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
½ cup margarine, softened
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups chopped apples
Combine flour, brown sugar and margarine. With an electric mixer, beat on low until crumbly, then stir in the nuts.
Press 2 ¾ cups of mixture into a 9x13 baking pan.
To the remaining crumb mixture add baking soda, cinnamon, salt, sour cream, vanilla, egg. Mix well. Stir in apples. Spoon mixture over over crumbs in pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Cool, then cut into squares.
