LANCASTER - Thayer Memorial Library announced that, effective immediately, children’s and young adult materials will no longer accrue late fees.

This policy applies to all physical items – such as books, CDs, and DVDs – that are part of Thayer Memorial Library’s collection.

Items that belong to other libraries within the Central and Western Massachusetts Resource Sharing (CW MARS) network may still accrue fines. Additionally, items that are considered lost or damaged will still be subject to replacement fees.

Thayer Memorial Library joins a number of libraries across the nation, including the Boston Public Library, in recognizing that fines can be a barrier for many patrons. Removing this barrier allows the library to fulfill its mission and brings people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives and build community, according to a press release.
