The Worcester County Mechanics Association opened the doors to Mechanics Hall on March 19, 1857, as a shining example of state-of-the-art technology and engineering and of the skills of Worcester laborers. It soon became the prime location for cultural, social, political and educational activities drawing visitors from across New England and national and international speakers and performers. A Founders' Day Celebration Sunday to mark the 163rd anniversary of Mechanics Hall will feature tours (including a look at the  E. & G.G. Hook Organ dedicated in 1864), the unveiling of new renovations, and a chance to meet and chat with some of Worcester's characters from the 19th century and find out what their lives were like back in the day.
