MARCH'S CHILD

Jordan, age 10
Jordan, who is from a Caucasian/Latino background, is a bright, friendly, outgoing boy, with big, beautiful, brown eyes. He has been at a residential facility for a little over one year, and has made significant progress.

He is described as kind, polite, "a love," and very appreciative of the few things he has. Since being at this facility, he has learned to share, take turns, and respect other people's property. He gets along well with both adults and peers, and is well liked and respected.

Jordan's favorite activity is playing video and board games, although he gets bored easily. He likes to be active, and is willing to take participate in a variety of activities. Jordan is currently enrolled in a weekly therapeutic horsemanship program, which he loves. They adopt cowboy names and live by cowboy rules.

He is in a specialized program at a public school, in the fourth grade. His favorite subject is math. His teacher said he is inquisitive and likes learning new things. He does best in an atmosphere of consistency and routine, and requires a small class setting structure with supports.

Jordan has been in the care and custody of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services for over 5 years, due to neglect and mother's inability to protect him from injurious influences of others. The parents' rights were terminated by the Court, and Jordan is legally free to be adopted. Jordan has been fortunate to have a visiting resource for more than a year, who takes him out on a regular basis, and would like to remain involved with him. Unfortunately, they are not able to make a permanent commitment to him, due to personal circumstances.

In stating what was important to him, Jordan said he would like a "mom and a dad," and he would like a dad who would take him places. He expressed a desire to have adventures and try new things like bungee jumping. He also likes the sense of "togetherness," in going on a picnic or family vacation.

Fearing more losses, Jordan is somewhat hesitant of allowing himself to even hope that there can be a family who will truly love him and stand by him.

Therefore, Jordan would probably do best in an experienced family with an older child in the home, who can provide love, nurturance, structure, patience and one-on-one attention.

If you think you can give Jordan the stability and assurance he needs, or if you just want general information about adoption and/or foster care, please call Barbara Ford at the Massachusetts Department of Social Services office at 508-929-2143.
