A Slam Dunk!
Makeover A Boy's Room With Just 5 Items & $100
Okay, while you little girl may wish to shop with
you for the perfect items for her sanctuary, the best you'll probably get out of
your son is "I want ! Or "Don't decorate my bedroom with trains. I'm too big for
that now!" Bay State Parent magazine again asked HGKids to identify five
products valued at under $250 that can upgrade a little boy's room in a day.
HGKids completed the task and spent just $100.
1. Pick a Theme - Sports is an ageless theme for boys. It can last through elementary school and sometimes, into middle school. This handcrafted 100% cotton quilt with basketballs, soccer balls, and footballs was a slam-dunk deal at just $39.99 for a twin bed. Again, use solid-colored coordinated sheets and pillowcases.
2. Coordinate - Tie the bedroom and an adjoining bathroom together with matching sports-themed hand towels ($5.99) and wash clothes ($2.99). Select a color from the quilt, and purchase solid-color bath towels. Solid towels are usually cheaper than themed towels.
3. Decorate Bare Walls - Continuing with the all-star theme, with this sports equipment wall art ($14.99) and this little slugger photo frame ($6.99). Enlarge photos of your in-house sports hero, frame them, and hang together on a single wall.
4. Personalize - Mark your son's room with a name sign, like the "Ryan" one pictured ($16.99). It may take a little shopping perseverance to find your child's name at a given store. If one cannot be found, consider purchasing a canvas from an arts & crafts store, like A.C. Moore or Michael's, and have your son create his own.
5. Storage - Boys need storage, just as much as the girls do. A solid wooden toy box is great to hide board games, Legos, and other larger items. For little items, like video game cartridges and art supplies, this wicker basket is perfect ($6.99 and comes with a cotton liner.)
